Dear Herding Enthusiast:
Thank you for your interest in the Saint Louis Herding Club.
This website has some basic information about our club and herding. If you would like to learn more, you are welcome to come to an event or club meeting as a guest to talk with our members. Just check the Events and Trials page for the schedule. Please feel free to ask any of us questions about the club or herding in general. You can also contact our membership chair at info@slhc.org
While dogs with herding backgrounds are the focus of the club, you need not own a purebred herding breed to join. Mixed breed dogs that have a herding breed component not only can participate in our club activities, but can also enter AHBA-sanctioned herding trials. In addition, our members have a diversified interest in the “Dog World” -- not just herding, but obedience, agility, conformation, flyball, and tracking as well.
At our meetings, special practice events and fun trials, we frequently offer the opportunity to work dogs on livestock. In order to participate in these events, you MUST be a member of the club.
The SLHC offers two different types of Membership: Regular and Associate. While associate members do not have voting rights and cannot hold office, they enjoy all other benefits of club membership: participation in club practices, reduced fees for club seminars, and access to the library and other club material.
If you anticipate that you cannot regularly attend meetings, please consider the Associate membership. Our meetings must have a quorum to conduct club business. Since a quorum is based upon the number of Regular members, our Regular members do need to attend meetings. If you join as an Associate member and later decide to become a Regular member, you simply request your status change to the Membership Chair. Your request will be announced at the next meeting and voted on at the following meeting.
Your membership application must be signed by two sponsoring members of the club. It should also be accompanied by a check for $15.00 for an individual membership or $20.00 for a family membership.
Once your application is complete, it will be read at two club meetings and then brought to the club for a vote.
Whether you have one dog or several, the SLHC wants members who are responsible, ethical, dog owners and are dedicated to the welfare of their canine friends. We look forward to hearing from you on or before our next meeting.
Download the printable application below or fill and submit the online application.
NOTE: If you use the online application, you must still mail a check (made out to SLHC) for your membership fee to Eileen Wilson, 7252 Klondike Rd, Hillsboro, MO 63050.
